The Lottery
Summary: This article tells of 8 lottery winners whose life took a turn for the worse. You’d think that winning the lottery would be really great, but as you see in the storys here that is not always the case. People pester you for money, and you can easily gamble the money away. In one story the winners brother hired a hitman in hopes that he would inherit some of the money! In another story a young man gambles, and gives all his money away. “For many people large sums of money can cause disater.”
The Pearl
Prediction: I think that in the next few chapters of this book, Kino will get a lot of attention about his findings and will become very wealthy. All this luxery makes Kino change his attitude about life. He starts to get cocky and he forgets who he really is. But i think in the end Kino will realize how he has been treating people, and will come to his senses and change his ways.
Connection: The book is like the article because like many people who won the lottery Kino got a sudden fortune. But usually with this great fortune comes desperation. In the article people lost friends, family, and almost all their money! In the book Kino wants a better life for his family[education,clothes etc.] and he could pay for it with the pearl. I think this is similar to what people who win millions of dollars go through. They want to keep something for themselves but also help people.
